THE Leeds office of Sanderson Weatherall has completed a deal which will see department store JE Beale open a new outlet.
JE Beale, best known for selling womens and menswear, gifts, cosmetics and home ware will open its thirteenth store this month at the former Westgate department store in The Exchange Shopping Centre, Rochdale.
The 52,000 sq ft store, part of which is listed, has been sublet by The Co-operative Group who were represented by Peter Heron, retail agency partner at Sanderson Weatherall.
Mr Heron said: “Part of the store is the original Pioneer House which was built in 1844 with the other half having been built as an anchor store to the The Exchange Shopping Centre and linking directly into the main mall of the scheme.
JE Beale PLC will begin a 25-year sub lease of the premises, after purchasing the former tenant Westgate’s assets from its current owners, the Anglia Co-operative.
Geoff Player, Director of Property at The Co-operative Group said: “Attracting Beale’s confirms an underlying confidence in Rochdale and demonstrates that despite the challenging economic climate it still remains possible to conclude deals that are commercial for all parties.”
